Read This Before Getting A Second Dog

You’ve got one dog already. It’s trained and settled well in your house. Now you want another baby for your dogs to play with. It is best to consider some things before you move onto getting your second dog.

Getting another dog with your existing dog can be sometimes tricky. In most cases this can backfire too. Consider this before you move on to get a second dog in your house.

● Separate attention

● Hard to leave behind

● Getting along is trickier

● Double work

Separate Attention

Even though you are getting another dog which is crucial to keep in mind that both of your dogs will need extra and separate attention. It doesn’t matter if your first dog is well trained. The new one requires some training and quality time. So does the first dog because he will get anxiety or jealousy.

It is very important that the energy of both of your dogs should match. If it doesn’t then you need to give both of them attention individually.

Hard to leave behind

The more dogs you have the more limited your options of vacation become. Because you only have two ways. Either you can leave them behind to your friends or family. But that is a hard option. Because it is already not easy to handle one dog let alone two. So anyone does not agree easily. Or you can leave your dog at the boarding houses. Which cost a fortune.

Another option is if you take them with you on vacation. This requires more planning and preparation. Vacation is about winding down and relaxing. Having a dog by your side who needs constant care can get tiring.

Getting Along is trickier

When you get a second dog, you will find it hard for the two dogs to get along. Your first dog is used to getting all of your attention. There is no guarantee if your first talk will get along with the second one. Several factors can affect their friendship.

That is if both dogs are territorial then friendship is impossible. It is always best to give the dogs some time to adjust with each other. Get a second dog according to the personality and traits of your first one.

Double Work

Having one dog and draining you out easily gets you alone to dogs. Keep in mind that you will get tired easily. That too if you dogs turn out to be high in energy and active.

Conclusion

It is always best to think carefully before getting a second dog. Check the traits and personalities of both dogs they should match with each other and even if you get a second dog, it is best to give them some time to adjust.
